God-Drenched Living

By Matthew Johnson
God-Drenched Living Post image

While reading today’s chapters, the light bulb went on! Leviticus clearly depicts a God-drenched, God-infused, God-saturated Israel! Every thread of their national fabric has God woven into it, from their priestly garments to their festivals that are observed nationally. Everything about Israel revolves around God! He rescued them from Egypt, set them apart from all other nations, and made them holy down to the last detail. They are a God-drenched people!

Neither shall ye profane my holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I am the LORD which hallow you, That brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD. (Leviticus 22:32–33, KJV)

And what is the result of this?

Happy art thou, O Israel: Who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, The shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! And thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; And thou shalt tread upon their high places. (Deuteronomy 33:29, KJV)

While that is great for Israel, how does this relate to us believers today? Using Old Testament language, the Apostle Peter describes those who have come to God through Jesus Christ, the Savior.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. (1 Peter 2:9–10, KJV)

Israel was meant to reveal God to the world; that's not difficult when you are drenched with God! We, too, are called to show others God's goodness, and when our identity is drenched in God, it becomes easy! Happy are we who have passed from darkness into light!

You are God’s own possession! But does God saturate the details of your life? Are you living drenched in His identity? Do you and God go through your day together, or do you try to do it alone? May the world see God's goodness reflected in our lives that are soaked in Him!

Thank you for joining me as I read and journal through the Bible chronologically. Today’s reflection: Leviticus 22-23 (Day 51).
